which causes (at least on a RedHat 8.x box) the new password to be already

- Characters like \ / * @ # $ % á ü SPACE and others are
  convert to %hex format. Example: Password like =123 is
  tranlated to %3D123
  Note than = character is replace by %3D . This causes
  username fail and old/new password check fail.
  Bug discovered by Anonymous user on 14/jun/2002 and it's
  present in versions 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3
